With the price of Gas and Electricity, many people are asking the question ‘Can I have a wood-burning stove?’
Let’s start at the beginning
- Do you have a flue/chimney? (check for a chimney stack and chimney pot on the roof)
- Is there a fireplace and if so was it designed for coal or wood (most fireplaces in today’s homes are only suitable for Gas and Electric Fires).
- Are you suitable for a stove. Stoves are work. If you don’t feed them they won’t keep you warm. Have you got somewhere to store the fuel? If you have a burning wood you need to store the wood for up to two years to ensure it is properly dry.
Taking account of the above if you are still interested in a Stove remember the most important fact. A STOVE IS A BOMBFIRE IN YOUR LIVING ROOM. It is not a DIY job. If you get it wrong you can get Carbon Monoxide Poisoning or burn your house down. Use a HETAS installer.
Properly fitted fuelled and run stoves are gorgeous. The heat they give off is like a big cuddle. But they are not for everybody. You can’t get 10 minutes of heat from a stove.
