The weather has broken and the prospect of using your stove is imminent. Of course, you put time aside in the summer to sort out your stove and get it ready for winter. Nope. I didn’t either.
So let’s assume you’ve had your chimney swept. The next job is to check all the seals:
- The flue pipe to the liner and or register plate
- The flue pipe to the stove
Your checking for and obvious signs of wear and to see if they need replacing.
Next, you need to look and see if the baffle is in the right place. Are the bricks, grate, and other components in good condition? Are all the rope seals intact and working? Is the glass intact and sealed to the door?
If the answer is no to any of these questions, then you’ll need some replacement parts for your stove.
If you need any rope, glass, sealing strips or glue we keep all them all in various sizes in stock. Just make sure you tell us the make and model of the stove so that we can make sure we’re sending you home with the right parts.
If you need new bricks if you give us the size we can cut those for you. They are suitable for most stoves.

o stock black fire cement and if you need new glass we do that too. Just measure it in mm and we can have it sent to your door. The make and model of the stove helps but we can do it by size only if that’s all you have.
Don’t forget we have everything you need at the shop to make your stove look good. Heatproof paint and glass cleaner.
Plus if you burn a lot of wood and it’s not perfect (slightly damp) we sell creosote remover which you sprinkle on your fire every week or two to stop the build-up of tar in your flue.
