It’s now the law for you to have a properly fitted Carbon Monoxide Detector in the same room as your stove. This might seem a bit over the top as far as health and safety go, but it isn’t.
Did you know, there is 500 to 1000 times more Carbon Monoxide in the flue gases of a wood-burning stove or multi-fuel stove than in a gas fire or gas stove. All gas fires and gas stoves have
Oxygen Depletion Sensors, which prevent them from making Carbon Monoxide. No such device exists for wood burning or multi-fuel stoves.
There are more Carbon Monoxide incidents and deaths with wood-burning stoves and multi-fuel stoves than there is with gas fires or gas stoves. This is despite there being about a million more gas fires in existence than stoves. Now is the time to get ready for the next season.
On the 26th of October, the clocks go back. When you change your clocks and check your fire alarm if you have a Carbon Monoxide detector,
check it and change the battery.
