This is a story from one of our customers.
“We have only had our stove for a little over a year and we have had the devils trouble in getting seasoned wood to burn. We ordered locally from people who were advertising seasoned firewood. We didn’t realise we were really buying unseasoned wood. It just seemed fairly dry on the outside.
The upshot is that we have a store full of wood we are going to have to wait a year to burn. If we had taken the bother to get a Moisture Meter this would not have happened to us.
Consequently, we have had to buy Kiln Dried Wood to see us through this winter which I didn’t want to do as it consumes a lot of fuel to dry it out and it is a lot more expensive.”
I am always telling anybody who will listen:-
- The damper the wood the less heat it gives off
- The more creosote and tar it produces
- The dirtier the chimney and glass
- The greater the chance of a chimney fire

The wood supply industry is not regulated, so buyers need to beware.
