Stove Tip for Summer

I was recently reminded by a friend of the fun he had last Autumn when he decided to light his Stove.

Like many people, he did not clean it out properly, renew worn bits and lightly oil the inside.

He did not remember the last day he used it. It was just warm enough after that day that he didn’t need it.

But now he did and the door wouldn’t open. It had rusted itself to the body of the stove.

Just because you’re not using it doesn’t stop the rain or the condensation, so rust soon starts.

With the aid of a big screwdriver, the door was eventually opened. The rope seals had stuck to the body of the stove and had pulled apart. It was a mess.

After wire wool, paint and new seals it was back to newish. But if he had just kept the door open just a fraction, air could have circulated, it would not have rusted.

So that’s the tip.
