Yes its winter and it’s getting pretty chilly. Now I know that everyone recommends you check your boiler and heating is working in the summer, but like most people, I didn’t.
And guess what? It broke! 1 month before Christmas, no heating and no hot water. Fantastic.
Now I did ring the boiler man, and lucky for me, it was easily fixed and didn’t cost me stupid amounts of money, however, the time between it breaking and getting fixed was about a week, so I need some way to stay warm.
That is where my Dad, Peter, the lovely man at Trafford Fireplaces comes in.
Because I am always cold and probably out of fear of me moving back home until my boiler was fixed, he let me borrow his little black Dimplex electric stove from the display.
Now, I have always thought they looked pretty cool in the showroom, and I had thought about buying one before as I live in a top floor flat where I don’t have room for a full fireplace.
Anyway, I took it home and set it up in the corner and it looks FAB!
Now my living room isn’t looking at its best at the moment as I am in the middle of redecorating it, but this beautiful little electric stove just fits with the room wonderfully.
But, what about the heat?
Now my flat was a mill that got converted into a block of flats, so with big thick stone walls, it can get pretty chilly up there! Yes, I do benefit from the heat from the lovely guy living underneath us, but as we had had no heating for 3 days, that heat made no difference and the flat was freezing.
Now when I got my little Dimplex electric stove, I knocked it on full heat and had the classic flame effect going. It did take a long time for the living room to heat up, but even if the heating was working, because the big stone walls had got cold it would have taken a while anyway.
To my surprise, it didn’t take too much longer for the electric stove to warm the room. Because of the size of it, it wouldn’t be able to heat the room as hot as the radiators would, but I was warm enough to not need a blanket and I would recommend it, anyone!
